The Indian Railways has introduced a new ‘super app’, RailOne, designed to make booking tickets and managing passenger services easier than ever. The app was launched on Tuesday by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, aiming to streamline the railway experience for travellers nationwide.
The RailOne app combines all passenger services into a single, user-friendly platform. Available now on both Android's Play Store and Apple's App Store, it offers features such as live train tracking, grievance redressal, e-catering, porter booking, last-mile taxi services, and a 3% discount on unreserved and platform tickets.
A spokesperson from Indian Railways explained, “Reserved tickets will still be booked via IRCTC, but the RailOne app has been authorised by IRCTC and includes a single sign-on using mPIN or biometrics. It supports existing RailConnect and UTS credentials, saving space on devices as there is no need to install multiple apps.”
Railways’ officials also highlighted enhancements in ticketing and reservation systems, with improvements to the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) aimed at handling ten times the current capacity, up to 1.5 lakh bookings and 40 lakh enquiries per minute. The upgraded PRS will be more inclusive, multilingual, and feature advanced functionalities like seat selection and fare calendars, catering also for persons with disabilities, students, and patients.
The launch coincides with updates to railway operations from July 1, including a new requirement for Aadhaar-verified IRCTC IDs for tatkal and emergency bookings, to improve security and prevent misuse. Additionally, the first reservation chart will now be prepared eight hours before departure, replacing the previous four-hour deadline.
Fare adjustments also take effect from today, with fares on non-AC Mail and Express trains increasing marginally by Rs 0.01 per kilometre, while AC class fares will rise by Rs 0.02 per kilometre. Suburban fares, second-class tickets for journeys under 500 km, and monthly season tickets remain unchanged.
This bold move by Indian Railways aims to put the vast network under a single digital roof, making train travel smoother, safer, and more accessible for all.
