The Indian Railways has announced that Aadhaar verification via OTP is now mandatory for all online Tatkal ticket bookings across the country. Additionally, bulk booking will not be permitted during the first 30 minutes of the booking window.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, Northern Railway, Uchit Singhal confirmed on Wednesday that, effective from July 15, passengers must verify their identity using a mobile OTP to book Tatkal tickets online. This measure aims to promote fair access and prevent misuse, ensuring that genuine travellers have priority.
Passengers will be unable to secure Tatkal tickets without OTP verification, which will be sent to the mobile number registered with their Aadhaar details. Bookings can be made via the IRCTC official website, mobile app, or at PRS counters. To utilise the system, travellers must carry a mobile phone with a SIM linked to their Aadhaar during the booking process.
The railway authorities also stated that during the first 30 minutes of each booking window, authorised agents will not be allowed to book Tatkal tickets to prevent bulk reservations. These restrictions are in place from 10:00 am to 10:30 am for AC classes and from 11:00 am to 11:30 am for non-AC classes. Passengers are advised to update their profiles with their Aadhaar details to avoid any inconvenience.
