Rajasthan Announces Grand Celebrations for Teej and New Cultural Hub at Shilpgram

Rajasthan’s government is set to elevate its cultural tourism offerings, with exciting plans for the upcoming Teej Festival and the redevelopment of Shilpgram.D uring a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari outlined the initiatives aimed at celebrating Rajasthan’s vibrant traditions and enriching the tourist experience.

This year, the Teej Festival will be expanded into a two-day extravaganza, highlighting Rajasthan’s colourful customs on both a national and international stage. Deputy Kumari also instructed officials to develop a comprehensive plan to transform Shilpgram, located within the Jawahar Kala Kendra complex, into a permanent cultural centre where local artists can thrive and showcase their crafts throughout the year.

The aim is to preserve Rajasthan’s rich art, culture, and heritage while simultaneously promoting tourism. Deputy Kumari emphasised the importance of safeguarding the state's cultural roots for future generations, ensuring that tourism development and cultural preservation go hand in hand.

Shilpgram is envisioned as a lively hub for traditional and local artists, offering year-round opportunities to display and sell their work—helping to preserve folk traditions and support rural artisans’ livelihoods.

The meeting also reviewed progress on restoring important heritage sites, including the Jamway Mata temple precinct, stepwells, and other historical monuments across Rajasthan. Experts in conservation were invited to oversee these projects, alongside ongoing initiatives under the Government of India’s 'SASAKI' scheme, covering sites such as Amer, Nahargarh, and Jal Mahal.

The review meeting was attended by Rajesh Sharma (Joint Director, Tourism( Development), Lalit Kumar (Special Officer), Alka Meena (Additional Director General, Jawahar Kala Kendra), Puneeta Singh (Joint Director, Fairs and Festivals), and Upendra Singh Shekhawat (Deputy Director, Tourism), along with other senior officials from the department.
