The scenic Mawkdok Dympep Valley, located near Sohra in Shillong, is set for a major tourism boost with the construction of a Rs 51-crore skywalk deck. Designed to offer sweeping panoramic views of Meghalaya’s lush landscapes, the project will feature a 40-metre projection and span 2,195 square metres, creating an unforgettable vantage point for visitors.

Covering an area of 0.54 acres, the deck is part of a larger development plan aimed at transforming Sohra into a premium tourist destination. Alongside the skywalk, plans are underway to build luxury hotels to cater to the rising influx of travellers seeking both comfort and immersive experiences in the heart of Northeast India.

Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem revealed that tourism in the region has seen a strong rebound in recent months, recovering from a temporary dip following the unfortunate killing of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi in May. He reiterated that Sohra remains one of the country’s most sought-after travel spots, famed for its natural wonders and cultural richness.

To ensure visitor safety, authorities will make it mandatory for tourists to hire local guides at key attractions. Additionally, CCTV cameras will be installed at popular spots to enhance security and provide peace of mind to travellers.

Known for its dramatic valleys, cascading waterfalls, and misty hills, Mawkdok Dympep Valley is already a must-visit stop for those exploring Shillong and its surroundings. The addition of the skywalk deck is expected to elevate the travel experience, allowing visitors to soak in the valley’s beauty from a whole new perspective.

With improved infrastructure, high-end accommodations, and strengthened safety measures, Shillong’s tourism landscape is poised for a remarkable transformation. Once complete, the Mawkdok Dympep Valley skywalk deck could become a signature attraction, drawing both domestic and international tourists to the enchanting hills of Meghalaya.
