A recent survey by Skyscanner indicates that 96 per cent of Indian travellers intend to undertake the same or a greater number of trips this summer, with a strong preference for quieter, off-season destinations. The Smarter Summer Report highlights that 95 per cent of travellers prioritise maximising the value of their summer holidays.

According to the data, over half (52 per cent) of Indian travellers prefer heading to less crowded locations rather than well-known tourist hotspots, reflecting a shift towards seeking calm and solitude. Many are also choosing to travel during shoulder seasons to avoid crowds and surging prices, indicating a move away from peak-season tourism towards more considered and intentional travel experiences.

In planning their summer getaways, travellers are increasingly focused on value and flexibility. A significant proportion (62 per cent) search for budget-friendly accommodation, while 56 per cent utilise comparison tools to find the best deals on flights, hotels, and car hire. Flexibility remains a key feature, with 84 per cent willing to adjust travel dates and 47 per cent prepared to fly on less popular days for better savings.

Despite these planning efforts, nearly half (49 per cent) of Indian travellers have yet to confirm their summer bookings, often due to indecision over destinations. A notable 38 per cent are still exploring options, underlining the need for inspiration and guidance. To support this, some organisations provide curated lists of alternative destinations that combine better value with fewer crowds, aligning with travellers’ desire for exploration and authentic experiences.

Sharing his views on the 2025 Indian summer travel trends, Mohit Joshi, Travel and Destinations Expert, Skyscanner, said, “Summer is a popular time for Indian travellers to take a well-earned break and explore new places. What’s different this year is how intentional people are about planning. They want to get the most value from their trips, but many are still unsure about when and where to go and how to plan it all, within their budget. In fact, 77 per cent believe weekends are the most expensive time to fly, but that is not always true, and 44 per cent don’t realise that some weeks are significantly cheaper than others. That’s why we created the Smarter Summer Report to help travellers cut through the noise and make confident decisions.

Furthermore, the report highlights that half of travellers are seeking cooler climates this summer, steering interest towards hill stations and mountain regions. This trend has prompted collaboration with local organisations to produce guides tailored to mountain adventures, emphasising a preference for slower-paced, experience-led travel.
