Slovenia will launch its first-ever digital nomad visa on November 21, 2025. This new visa provides a unique opportunity for remote workers to live in Slovenia for up to a year, while working remotely for employers or clients based outside the country.
Situated in Central Europe and neighbouring Italy, Austria, and Croatia, Slovenia is renowned for its stunning scenery, vibrant culture, and traditional crafts such as winemaking and lace weaving. With this initiative, Slovenia joins other nations welcoming remote professionals through dedicated immigration options.
The visa is non-renewable but can be reapplied for after six months. To qualify, applicants must be employed, self-employed, or contracted by entities outside Slovenia and engaged in remote work via digital communication tools. Evidence of sufficient income—such as payslips, bank statements, or employment contracts—is required.
Applications can be made in person or by post at a Slovenian consulate abroad, or at a local administrative unit if already in Slovenia. Those applying from within the country will receive a temporary residence certificate while their application is processed.
Family members of approved applicants can also apply for residency permits of the same duration, though neither the main applicant nor their dependents are permitted to operate local employment or earn income from Slovenian-based businesses. All work must continue to be linked to foreign employers or clients.
This marks a major shift in Slovenia’s immigration approach, opening doors for digital nomads eager to experience life in one of Europe's most picturesque and culturally rich destinations.
