For Indian couples dreaming of a wedding abroad without flying halfway across the world, Sri Lanka is rolling out the red carpet. The island nation has officially opened its doors to destination weddings, inviting families to celebrate life’s biggest milestone against a backdrop of golden beaches, historic forts, or lush tropical gardens.

The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chalaka Gajabahucommented, “Sri Lanka is now open for destination weddings, and we invite India to come celebrate love with us. The overwhelming response across India reaffirmed our belief that Sri Lanka holds a special place in the hearts of Indian couples. From pristine beaches and tea garden retreats to colonial mansions and heritage forts, the island offers everything needed to create truly unforgettable weddings.”

To showcase its offerings, Sri Lanka Tourism recently hosted a series of luxury wedding shows across Indian cities. These gatherings brought together Sri Lankan hotels, resorts, heritage venues, and wedding service providers with India’s leading wedding planners and travel specialists. Guests were given a taste of how ceremonies, whether traditional Indian weddings or chic modern celebrations—could seamlessly come to life on the island.

Why consider Sri Lanka? For one, it’s close. Flights from major Indian cities are short, visas are simple, and the island’s hospitality industry is well-versed in catering to Indian traditions. Couples can choose from barefoot beach vows, regal palace-style receptions, or intimate boutique ceremonies. Costs are flexible too, making it accessible whether you’re planning a grand gathering or a close-knit affair.

With strong participation from luxury hotels and event planners, the country is positioning itself as an ideal blend of convenience, culture, and affordability,  ready to become the next hotspot for Indian weddings abroad.
