Airline Operations Transition at Maldives’ Main International Gateway

SriLankan Airlines transitioned its operations to Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport, Malé, with effect from December 17, 2025.

To mark the commencement of operations at the new terminal, Maldives Airports Company Ltd hosted a ceremonial welcome for passengers arriving on flight UL101 at Terminal 1, as well as those departing on UL102 from the same terminal.

The event was attended by Mohamed Rizvi Hassen, Sri Lanka High Commissioner to the Maldives, along with senior representatives from Maldives Airports Company Ltd and SriLankan Airlines.

SriLankan Airlines currently operates three daily flights to Malé via its Colombo hub, providing onward connectivity to its global network of 117 destinations across 59 countries.

Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport features updated passenger facilities designed to support operational efficiency and passenger movement. The transition is expected to support ongoing tourism flows and air connectivity between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
