The Westin Sohna Resort & Spa has unveiled its latest signature dining destination, Tangra – Tales of Chinatown, an immersive restaurant that brings the authentic flavours and living legacy of Kolkata’s historic Chinatown to the heart of Sohna. Inspired by the vibrant Tangra neighbourhood, the new establishment pays tribute to India’s first Chinatown—a cultural melting pot where Hakka-style Chinese cuisine found its iconic Indian expression.
More than just a restaurant, Tangra offers a sensory journey through the bustling lanes and soulful kitchens that have defined Kolkata’s Chinese community for generations. Each dish tells a story, preserving the warmth and tradition of meals that have long brought families together.
The culinary experience at Tangra brings to life the iconic dishes that made Tangra legendary, presented with contemporary refinement while honoring their cultural origins. Signature offerings include Chimney Soup, Shao Mai, Braised Wontons, and Tangra-style Chilli Chicken, alongside seafood specials like Golden Garlic Lobster and Mandarin Chilean Seabass. Vegetarian highlights such as Seven Treasure Vegetables and Claypot Vegetables in Chilli Bean Sauce reflect the cuisine’s inclusive, family-style spirit.
Adding to the authenticity, Tangra sources select ingredients from traditional, family-run makers in Kolkata’s Chinatown—custodians of recipes dating back to the 1950s. The experience is further enriched by tableside preparations, such as the finishing of Steamed Fish, evoking the energy of Chinatown’s open kitchens. The meal culminates with nostalgic desserts like Darsaan and Fried Ice Cream, alongside storytelling cocktails such as Loong and Red Dragon.
The restaurant’s design is a thoughtful homage to Kolkata’s Chinatown, blending symbolism with immersive storytelling. Guests enter through a tranquil koi pond and timber doors, greeted by granite guardian lions—traditional symbols of strength and prosperity. Inside, a parasol-inspired chandelier casts a warm glow over dining tables featuring Mahjong tile–inspired gold inlays.
An open kitchen forms the heart of the space, where the sizzle of garlic, soy, and chilli creates a theatrical dining atmosphere. With 32 indoor and 24 outdoor seats across 4,300 square feet, the restaurant balances intimacy with grandeur, offering a nostalgic yet contemporary setting.
Rahul Puri, Multi-Property General Manager at The Westin Gurgaon New Delhi and The Westin Sohna Resort & Spa, shared, “Tangra reflects our belief in experiences with soul. This is not just a restaurant—it’s a story brought to life, capturing the essence of Kolkata’s Chinatown with emotion and depth. We wanted to create something guests would remember long after the meal, for its warmth, character, and the way it makes them feel.”
Chef Amit Dash, Cluster Executive Chef, added, “Tangra represents the beautiful crossroads of culture where great cuisines are born. My dream was to bring the spirit of Tangra alive—soulful food rooted in authenticity, presented with refinement. Here, every bite is designed to linger not just on the palate, but in memory.”
Set within 60 acres of lush landscapes and just a 40-minute drive from Gurgaon, Tangra offers both a cultural and culinary escape—a destination where heritage, nostalgia, and hospitality converge to create an unforgettable dining experience.
