Cold wave brings winter wonders to Jammu and Kashmir
A cold wave transformed Kashmir into a winter wonderland, attracting tourists who are experiencing frosty views, shikara rides on Dal Lake and traditional hot Kawa despite the drop in temperatures across the Valley.
Temperatures fell below freezing in several parts of Kashmir. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of around minus four degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures hovered near 12 degrees Celsius, according to the weather office. Jammu also experienced cold conditions, with daytime temperatures around ten degrees Celsius and night-time lows close to four degrees Celsius.
Visitors described the cold weather as having its own appeal and said they were making the most of the winter conditions, even as the Valley continued to experience severe seasonal temperatures.
Other popular tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir also reported low temperatures. Gulmarg is expected to see a maximum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of minus 5 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam may record a maximum of 11 degrees Celsius and a minimum of minus 7 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, Kathua is likely to experience a maximum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a minimum of seven degrees Celsius. Katra is expected to see temperatures ranging from 15 degrees Celsius to 6 degrees Celsius.
