The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled a new set of visa categories, reflecting its growing appeal as a hub for tourism, business, and innovation. Announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship and Customs and Port Security (ICP), the latest rules expand opportunities for visitors and residents alike.
Among the most notable additions are visit visas tailored to specific groups. These include categories for artificial intelligence specialists, travellers attending entertainment events, cruise ship visitors, and those coming for exhibitions or conferences. Authorities say the changes are aimed at streamlining entry processes and creating more accessible pathways for different types of travellers.
The updates also touch on residency rules. A Humanitarian Residence Permit has been introduced, valid for one year, with extensions subject to the ICP’s approval. Similarly, a residence permit for foreign widows and divorcees is now available, also valid for one year and renewable under certain conditions.
For those wishing to host loved ones, the visit visa for a friend or relative allows sponsorship up to the third degree of kinship, based on the sponsor’s income. Meanwhile, the Business Exploration Visa targets entrepreneurs, requiring proof of financial solvency, business ownership outside the UAE, or evidence of professional practice.
On the professional side, a truck driver visa has been added, requiring sponsorship as well as financial and health guarantees. Authorities have also clarified schedules for each visa type, outlining the permitted duration of stay and options for extension.
The introduction of these visas highlights the UAE’s dual approach: welcoming tourists drawn to its attractions and lifestyle, while also encouraging skilled professionals and entrepreneurs to contribute to its fast-growing economy.
For travellers and residents, the changes bring greater flexibility and clarity. Whether you are planning a short cruise stopover, exploring business opportunities, or supporting family members, the UAE’s updated visa system provides clearer routes to entry and stay.
