Project Aligned with Centre’s Vocal for Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat Vision
The Goa government reiterated its support for the proposed Unity Mall project, also referred to as the PM-Ekta Mall, positioning it as a key initiative to strengthen the state’s tourism economy while supporting artisans and local entrepreneurs.
Speaking in the Goa Legislative Assembly, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the Unity Mall is part of a national initiative envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote Swadeshi products, empower artisans and reinforce local economies. He clarified that the project is not a standalone development but a concept being implemented across several states under the Centre’s Vocal for Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat programmes.
“For a tourism-oriented state like Goa, the Unity Mall will add value by showcasing India’s culture and artisanal diversity in a structured and organised manner, while directly supporting products and entrepreneurs,” Khaunte said.
The Minister explained that Unity Malls are designed to serve as standard platforms for self-help groups, artisans, weavers, and local producers from across the country. These spaces aim to help participants access broader markets, generate livelihoods and create sustainable economic opportunities.
Khaunte emphasised that the project aligns with broader national goals of inclusive economic growth, with a focus on employment generation, entrepreneurship and long-term financial resilience. He added that such initiatives are intended to benefit both present and future generations by fostering self-reliance and strengthening local enterprise.
Goa’s inclusion in several central development initiatives reflects the state’s economic and tourism potential, he said, noting that similar Unity Mall projects are being developed across India, reinforcing their national significance.
The Minister concluded that development projects should be viewed through the lens of national interest and long-term economic empowerment, rather than a narrow perspective. The Goa government, he said, remains committed to implementing initiatives aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision to strengthen the economy and create opportunities for local communities.
