The State government is set to develop Vijayawada, the gateway to Amaravati, into a prominent tourist destination. The city will be decorated as the ‘City of Victory’ through enhanced tourism initiatives, said NTR District Collector G Lakshmisha.
Participating in the ‘Yogandhra Success Meet’ held on Friday, Lakshmisha mentioned that Vijayawada Utsav will be celebrated on a grand scale during the Dasara festivities. Vijayawada will be beautifully ornate for the celebrations, with all junctions, the Prakasam Barrage, main roads, and temples illuminated during Dasara Maha Rātri Utsavams, the Collector announced.
Highlighting the city’s tourism potential, Lakshmisha explained that several thematic projects are under way, including Temple Tourism, Ecotourism, and the Buddhist Circuit. He also mentioned initiatives such as the Mulapadu Butterfly Park, Kondapalli Toys Experience Centre, the revival of the Gandhi Hill Project, and the illumination of Krishna River ghats and heritage sites.
He expressed gratitude to the local communities and officials from various departments, including Ayush, Medical and Health, Information and Public Relations, and the Yogandhra nodal officer, for contributing to the success of the Yogandhra programme.
Painting Competition Scheduled for July 13
The Collector announced a painting competition will be held at Haritha Berm Park at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 13, focussed on various government programmes. Artists and students are invited to create artworks on themes such as ‘Say No to Single-Use Plastic’, ‘Swachhandhra – Swarnandhra’, ‘Save Water’, ‘Harithandhra’, and ‘P4’ (Public-Private-People Partnership).
