Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) will close its Runway 28/10 for a period of 90 days, beginning 15 June 2025, for scheduled maintenance and upgrade works, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has announced.
The closure will involve resurfacing of the runway and improvements to airfield lighting and infrastructure systems, aimed at ensuring long-term safety and operational efficiency.
IGI Airport is equipped with four runways. With Runway 28/10 temporarily out of service, flights will continue using the other three — Runways 29L/11R, 29R/11L, and the newly operational Runway 11L/29R. DIAL has stated that it is working closely with airlines and air traffic control to ensure minimal disruption to flight operations during this period.
The airport authority has also assured passengers that flight schedules will remain largely unaffected, and any changes will be communicated by airlines in advance. Passengers are advised to check flight updates regularly before heading to the airport.
This move is part of IGI Airport’s broader plan to enhance infrastructure and maintain high safety standards. Being one of the busiest airports in India, the upgrades are essential for handling increasing air traffic efficiently.
The temporary closure of Runway 28/10 is expected to conclude by mid-September 2025, following which regular operations will resume.
