India and Maldives sign tourism pact at ATM Dubai

In a strategic move to promote regional tourism, the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025 in Dubai. This partnership aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in tourism promotion between India and the Maldives.

According to Rajiv Mehra, President, IATO, “ There is a huge scope for boosting tourism flow between India and the Maldives. Such pacts, I believe, would significantly help us improve tourism ties, thus contributing to employment generation and boosting local economies”.

The agreement outlines a framework for joint promotional efforts, signifying a shared vision to increase tourist flows, improve travel infrastructure, and foster sustainable tourism between the two neighbouring countries. With India being one of the top source markets for the Maldives, the collaboration is expected to further streamline travel connectivity and encourage mutual tourism growth.

Under the MoU, both organisations will coordinate marketing campaigns, participate in travel fairs, and facilitate exchanges between tour operators and stakeholders from both nations. The initiative will also focus on diversifying tourism offerings, supporting local economies, and encouraging environmentally responsible travel practices.

As sustainable and experiential travel continues to dominate tourist preferences, the partnership between IATO and MMPRC is set to play a crucial role in crafting unique cross-border travel experiences that cater to evolving traveller demands. This agreement is anticipated to pave the way for more meaningful and coordinated tourism development in South Asia.
