On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Courchevel, renowned as the world’s ski capital, will become a key battleground in the 112th Tour de France. For the first time, the Col de la Loze will be climbed from the Courchevel side, making Stage 18 a unique and challenging addition to this year’s race.
A Decisive Climb for the Yellow Jersey
The 26.2 km ascent, with an average gradient of 6.5 per cent, promises no flat sections, only relentless climbing. Introduced in 2020, the Col de la Loze has quickly earned a reputation as one of the Tour’s toughest climbs. With its placement in the final week, this stage could play a pivotal role in deciding who claims the coveted Yellow Jersey.
Celebrating 50 Years of the Polka-Dot Jersey
This stage also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the polka-dot jersey, awarded to the best climber in the Tour. It’s a symbolic and fitting tribute, as the mountain pass will likely prove decisive in shaping the King of the Mountains classification.
A Communal Celebration in Full Swing
The entire Courchevel community including residents, volunteers, and summer holidaymakers, will unite in celebration. The resort will be adorned in the Tour’s colours, and festivities will run throughout the day, culminating in the arrival of the Tour caravan and, of course, the riders.
To facilitate access, shuttle and lift services will run on extended schedules. Some gondolas will even be open free of charge for the occasion, allowing all visitors to join in the heart of the action.
Decorations and Local Pride
On July 25, a prize draw will be held for the best-decorated home or shopfront in Courchevel. Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to take part in the contest, which will add colour and creativity to the festivities.
