Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has been named the 39th 'Most Connected Airport in the World', according to the Megahubs 2025 report released by travel data platform Official Aviation Guide (AOG). Though the airport slipped from its 24th position last year, it continues to hold the title of South Asia’s most connected hub.

The report found that IGI Airport offered 16,178 connections to 157 destinations during the study period from September 2023 to August 2024. These included both international and domestic links, with the rankings determined by analysing same-day flight connections within a six-hour window.

John Grant, Chief Analyst at OAG, said, "Heathrow's sustained dominance reflects its vital role in global travel, while Istanbul’s rapid rise shows how hubs are evolving to meet demand. Our 2025 ranking underscores the balance between established gateways and ambitious challengers worldwide, which has developed over ten years of Megahubs."

In the low-cost carrier category, Delhi performed even better, standing at the 11th spot globally. Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport was also recognised, ranking 14th among the world’s busiest low-cost hubs. Both airports remain within the top 25 globally for low-cost connectivity.

The Megahubs report evaluates 100 of the world’s largest airports and international airports by scheduled seats. By focusing on how easily passengers can make onward journeys, the study provides an insight into the strength of an airport’s network and its role in global aviation.

While Delhi has dropped in global rank, its connectivity across South Asia and beyond remains a strong advantage for international travellers. With its mix of full-service and low-cost carriers, the airport continues to serve as a key gateway for millions of passengers flying to and from India.
