The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is set to introduce a single, easy-to-use visa that will allow travellers to visit six Gulf nations with just one permit. This includes the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman.

Announced by GCC Secretary-General Jassem Al Budaiwi on Wednesday, the new visa is part of ongoing efforts to promote greater integration and cooperation among the Gulf countries. He highlighted that this initiative will modernise travel, boost tourism, and deliver significant economic benefits across the region.

The concept was officially approved in November 2023 at a GCC interior ministers’ meeting in Oman. Inspired by the European Schengen visa, it will enable travellers to visit multiple Gulf countries on a single visa, subject to specific conditions, primarily for tourism and family visits.

Applications will be made online via an official portal (launch date to be announced). The visa will be valid for between 30 and 90 days, offering options for single- or multiple-country visits, and will be more convenient and cost-effective than separate visas.

Using the latest technology, the system will meet strict global security standards. Applicants will need a valid passport (with at least six months’ validity), a recent passport-sized photo, proof of accommodation, travel insurance, proof of sufficient funds, and a return or onward ticket.

The process will be straightforward, with all applications handled online. Once approved, the visa will be emailed directly to travellers, who can either print it or display it on their mobile device when arriving at the airport.

While the exact launch date has not yet been revealed, GCC officials confirm the new visa will be introduced soon. This innovative step will make travelling across the Gulf easier and encourage more visitors to explore the region’s vibrant countries
