Indian Outbound Travel Drives Germany’s Experience-Focused Tourism Push
Germany continues to see sustained momentum from the Indian outbound travel market, supported by rising travel intent, improved connectivity and a growing preference for immersive, experience-driven journeys. Over recent years, interest from Indian travellers has strengthened steadily, reinforcing Germany’s position as a key long-haul destination.
Travel performance data reflects this trend. Indian travellers recorded over 104,066 overnight stays in Germany during October 2025, covering both leisure and business travel segments. Overnight stays from India during the month were 16.5 per cent higher than pre-pandemic 2019 levels, indicating sustained growth. According to data from the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), Indian travellers recorded 775,294 overnight stays between January and October 2025.
Air connectivity continues to play a central role in supporting this growth. The GNTB Dashboard shows that approximately 296 flights are currently operating between India and Germany, offering access to multiple German cities and enabling flexible, multi-city itineraries. Seat capacity between the two markets currently stands at around 93,447 seats, supporting consistent travel volumes.
Indian travellers are also spending more time in the destination. The average length of stay has now crossed nine nights, reflecting a shift towards longer itineraries and deeper exploration across regions rather than short city-focused visits.
Germany’s Tourism Focus for the Indian Market in 2025
Against this backdrop, the German National Tourist Office hosted a press event in New Delhi to outline Germany’s tourism priorities for the Indian market in 2025. The strategy emphasises culture-led travel, romantic journeys, seasonal experiences and region-focused itineraries aligned with evolving Indian travel preferences.
Commenting on the approach, Romit Theophilus, Director – Marketing and Sales Office, India, German National Tourist Office, said, “Indian outbound travel is evolving rapidly, with travellers today placing greater value on depth, relevance and personal connection rather than conventional sightseeing alone. We are seeing a clear preference for journeys that are immersive, thoughtfully paced and shaped around individual interests. Germany’s strength lies in its culturally rich regions, diverse landscapes and year-round experiences, which together allow travellers to curate journeys that are distinctive, meaningful and aligned with their evolving travel expectations.”
Culture, Romance and Seasonal Experiences Drive Demand
Germany’s cultural offering remains a key draw for Indian travellers. Through the Cultureland Germany initiative, visitors can explore historic town centres, museums, architectural landmarks and contemporary arts spaces across the country. Germany has been recognised as Europe’s leading cultural travel destination for ten consecutive years, reflecting the scale and diversity of its cultural landscape.
Alongside culture-driven travel, Germany is also positioning itself as a year-round romantic and honeymoon destination. Experiences span spring and summer countryside stays, autumn landscapes and winter festive travel. The Season’s Greetings programme highlights Germany’s Christmas traditions, festive markets and seasonal celebrations, adding to its winter travel appeal for Indian visitors.
As Indian outbound travel continues to mature, Germany’s 2025 tourism strategy reflects a focus on longer stays, regional exploration and experience-led journeys. Supported by strong air connectivity, steady travel volumes and sustained engagement, Germany remains positioned to strengthen its relationship with Indian travellers beyond conventional sightseeing routes.
