Goa has been awarded the Special Editorial Award for “Promoting Tourism through Festivals” by The Week. The Week Heritage Award ceremony took place in New Delhi, where Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, Secretary (Tourism), Government of Goa, received the award from Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Culture & Tourism, Government of India.

The recognition underscored Goa’s sustained efforts to showcase its vibrant cultural calendar, spanning traditional, religious, and community-based festivals, and to position the state as a destination offering enriching experiences beyond its coastline.

Rohan A Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, said, “We were deeply honoured that Goa was recognised by The Week for its commitment to promoting tourism through festivals. Our festivals reflected the diversity, unity, and cultural richness of the state. This recognition reinforced our vision of taking Goa beyond beaches. Such acknowledgements inspired us to continue creating avenues where culture and tourism worked together for the benefit of our people and visitors alike.”

Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Government of Goa, added, “This award highlights the collective efforts of the Department of Tourism and the people of Goa in promoting Goa’s unique identity through its festivals.”
The honour from The Week emphasises Goa’s evolving image as a vibrant cultural hub, where festivals play a central role in shaping tourism and enhancing visitor experiences.
