Heritance Aarah
All-Inclusive Hospitality Supported By Structured Sustainability Initiatives
Heritance Aarah and Adaaran Select Meedhupparu have each earned international recognition at the 2025 Luxury Lifestyle Awards, reflecting the Maldives’ evolving model of premium all-inclusive hospitality grounded in measurable sustainability and immersive guest engagement.
Heritance Aarah, an all-inclusive resort in the Raa Atoll just 40 minutes by seaplane from Malé, has been named among the TOP 100 Hotels & Resorts of the World 2025 and the TOP 100 Sustainable Hotels & Resorts of the World 2025. The resort offers immersive culinary journeys, rejuvenating wellness rituals, curated underwater excursions, and exclusive accommodation, all supported by an integrated sustainability framework.
At Heritance Aarah, the guest journey is curated, with a dine-around experience spanning seven restaurants and five bars, including the world’s first Sri Lankan–Maldivian fusion restaurant. The collection of villas and suites is designed for privacy and comfort, complemented by wellness rituals and an all-inclusive offering that encourages guests to engage in an elevated island experience.
As the Maldives’ first LEED-certified resort and a Green Globe-certified property, Heritance Aarah integrates renewable energy solutions, including 1,125 solar panels across 1,920 square meters, alongside rainwater harvesting systems that reduce freshwater dependency. Waste circularity initiatives convert more than 103 tons of organic waste annually into 41 tons of compost to support on-island landscaping. Water efficiency measures have reduced consumption per guest night by 19 per cent, while kitchen optimizations have lowered food waste by 10 per cent. Key performance indicators track water and energy use per guest night, organic waste processing, reduction in single-use plastics, local sourcing, and sustainability engagement.
Since 2020, the Maldivian Village Live Museum has engaged more than 2,500 guests and local students in ecological and cultural education, including 493 participants in the 2024–25 fiscal year. A biodiversity survey documents island flora, fauna, and marine species, forming the foundation for conservation awareness among guests and staff. Educational tools such as The Colours of Our Islands biodiversity book integrate environmental stewardship into the guest experience.
Adaaran Select Meedhupparu, located in the Raa Atoll as the first resort established there, spans a mature Maldivian island characterised by banyan trees and one of the Maldives’ notable house reefs. The resort combines a premium all-inclusive model with environmental stewardship, emphasising low-impact design while maintaining comfort and sophistication.
Environmental performance improvements at Adaaran Select Meedhupparu include a 6.8 per cent reduction in water intensity per guest night through demand-based pressure control and monitoring systems, and a 2.12 per cent reduction in energy intensity through inverter air conditioning systems, LED retrofits, motion-sensor lighting, and solar walkway illumination. Organic waste is converted into 32,719 kilograms of soil enhancers annually, and nearly 395,000 single-use plastic bottles have been replaced with in-house glass alternatives. Local sourcing is prioritized, including over 40,000 kilograms of fish and 83,000 kilograms of fruits and vegetables, alongside on-island production of vegetables and coconuts.
The resort’s “Painting the Canvas of Conservation” initiative, launched in January 2025, translates biodiversity surveys into an interactive picture and activity book titled The Colors of Our Islands. Through species profiles, conservation pledges, and reef-safe practices, guests, students, and staff engage in eco-literacy programs designed to encourage behavioral change and reinforce a holistic environmental strategy.
Operations align with international standards, including Green Globe Standard 1.7, HACCP, ISO 22000:2018, and the UNWTO Responsible Tourism Code of Ethics. A comprehensive sustainability management plan establishes measurable goals for water, energy, waste, and biodiversity, supported by continuous associate training and guest education. Leadership at both corporate and property levels coordinates green technologies and operational strategies while addressing challenges such as limited renewable energy infrastructure and high investment costs in the Maldives.
Together, the recognitions of Heritance Aarah and Adaaran Select Meedhupparu at the 2025 Luxury Lifestyle Awards highlight two distinct yet aligned approaches to responsible premium all-inclusive hospitality.
Through certified sustainable design, measurable environmental performance, cultural integration, and guest-centered education, both resorts demonstrate how contemporary island luxury can operate in parallel with environmental resilience and community engagement in the Maldives.
