Hyderabad will soon have its own artificial beach. The Telangana government has approved a project to build a 35-acre beach at Kotwal Guda on the city’s outskirts. Construction is expected to commence in December, with an estimated cost of Rs 225 crore under a public‑private partnership.
What is Planned
- A man-made lake designed to mimic a beach-like environment, with more than just sand and water.
- Floating villas and star-category hotels for accommodation
- Adventure sports such as bungee jumping, sailing, skating, and winter games
- Family-friendly zones with parks, cycling tracks, and playgrounds
- Leisure and entertainment areas, including food courts, theatres, decorative fountains, and a wave pool
The aim is to provide Hyderabad residents with a complete weekend getaway without leaving the city.
Why Kotwal Guda
Kotwal Guda was chosen for its proximity to the Outer Ring Road, offering easy access and space for large-scale development. Authorities emphasise that environmental safeguards will be integral to the project, ensuring eco-friendly construction.
Tourism Vision
Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy said the detailed project report has been finalised. International firms have already shown interest in investing beyond the initial Rs 225 crore.
Reddy added that Telangana’s untapped tourism potential exceeds Rs 15,000 crore, spanning heritage sites, forts, and eco-tourism destinations. He said the artificial beach will be a flagship project intended to put Hyderabad on the global tourism map.
For years, Hyderabad residents have travelled to Suryalanka Beach in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to enjoy the sea. Once completed, the artificial beach will allow locals and visitors to experience beach activities within the city itself, combining relaxation, adventure, and leisure, making Hyderabad a new weekend and tourism destination.
