Airline outlines long-haul growth, domestic network expansion and operational learnings

IndiGo concluded calendar year 2025 with expanded international operations, increased passenger volumes and continued domestic network growth, as the airline progresses towards its stated goal of becoming a global carrier.

The airline expects to close the year having welcomed over 123 million passengers, up from 113 million in 2024, placing it among the top 10 airlines globally by passenger numbers. IndiGo continued to operate in line with its stated customer commitments on punctuality, service, affordability, network reach, and safety.

During the year, the airline experienced industry-wide operational challenges, including a network disruption between December three and December five, 2025. IndiGo stated that operations were restored swiftly and confirmed that it continues to cooperate with the regulator’s committee while strengthening internal operational processes.

In 2025, IndiGo hosted the International Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting in Delhi, marking the first time the event was held in India and highlighting the country’s growing role in global aviation.

Long-Haul Operations and International Expansion

As part of its internationalisation strategy, IndiGo launched long-haul operations in 2025 with non-stop flights connecting India to Manchester and Amsterdam, followed by services to Copenhagen and London. Over the year, the airline added ten international destinations and more than thirty new international routes.

The long-haul services were enabled through the induction of Boeing 787-9 aircraft operated in partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways. Select international routes also introduced complimentary hot meals.

IndiGo further expanded its international footprint with new services to destinations including Seychelles, Krabi, Madinah, Fujairah, and Siem Reap. The airline also resumed direct services between Kolkata and Guangzhou and launched new flights from Delhi, marking the restart of direct connectivity between India and China.

Looking ahead, IndiGo is scheduled to commence non-stop services to Athens from January 23, 2026. This will mark the international debut of India’s first Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

Domestic Network Growth

Domestically, IndiGo commenced operations as the launch carrier at Navi Mumbai International Airport and began services to new airports at Purnea and Rewa. Additional domestic destinations added during the year included Hindon, Adampur (Jalandhar), Kishangarh and Bikaner.

The airline is also preparing to commence operations from Noida International Airport (Jewar). At the end of 2025, IndiGo’s network comprised 139 destinations, including 97 domestic and 42 international points.

Fleet, Products and Customer Engagement

IndiGo doubled its order for Airbus A350-900 aircraft to sixty units during the year, reinforcing its long-term wide-body fleet strategy.

The airline completed one year of its dual-class IndiGoStretch product, now available on 42 aircraft across select domestic and international routes. IndiGo also marked one year of its BluChip loyalty programme, which has crossed nine million members.

Partnerships and Operations

During 2025, IndiGo expanded its codeshare partnerships with international carriers, improving connectivity across North America, Europe and Asia.

Operationally, the airline operated an average of over 2,200 flights per day and expects to have transported more than 55,000 tonnes of cargo during the year. IndiGo maintained on-time performance leadership for 10 of 12 months.

The airline also signed a memorandum of understanding with Bangalore International Airport Limited to develop maintenance, repair and overhaul infrastructure in India.

Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said, “Having earlier laid the building blocks of our strategy – Towards New Heights and Across New Frontiers, the year 2025 witnessed IndiGo taking big strides in the execution of our strategy and advancing to the next phase to become a major airline of global scale. He added, “As we step into the New Year, there’s opportunity to reflect on the story so far, take stock of the progress made and learn from the operational challenges we encountered. This is the point in our journey where our renewed focus will drive further scale, innovation, and impact across new frontiers, keeping our customers at the heart of everything.”

Recognition and Outlook

During the year, IndiGo was named Best Airline in India and South Asia at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. The airline also remains among the top twenty global airlines, generating more than US$10 billion in annual revenue.

In 2026, IndiGo plans to induct the Airbus A321XLR, commence services to Athens and continue expanding both its domestic and international networks.
