IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has signed an MoU with Airbus to increase its wide-body aircraft order from 30 to 60 Airbus A350-900s, converting purchase rights for 70 aircraft into a firm order.
The airline’s plans signal its ambition to expand internationally, including launching long-haul routes connecting Indian cities to global destinations. In April 2024, IndiGo placed an order for 30 A350-900s, with the first deliveries expected from 2027. With this latest development, the airline aims to strengthen its international network and offer more options for passengers.
The A350-900 aircraft will be powered by Rolls Royce Trent XWB engines, providing both efficiency and long-range capability. In early 2025, IndiGo began taking steps towards long-haul operations with six leased aircraft, set to be delivered by 2026.
As India’s aviation market grows, supported by government initiatives to develop infrastructure and position the country as a global aviation hub, IndiGo’s expansion reflects the country’s rising prominence in international air travel
