The Kerala government has allocated a total of Rs 1.12 crore for the renovation of government guest houses managed by the Tourism department in Munnar and Devikulam.

Of this, Rs 58.3 lakh is designated for upgrading the guest house at Munnar, while Rs 54.45 lakh will be spent on refurbishing the guest house at Devikulam. Officials expect the renovations at Munnar to be completed within eight months, and at Devikulam within six months.

Tourism and Public Works Minister PA Mohamed Riyas stated that these upgrades will enable visitors to enjoy their holidays in both picturesque locations at affordable prices. “The government’s goal is to provide excellent yet budget-friendly accommodation options in Munnar and Devikulam. The guest houses that are open to the public also contribute a healthy revenue stream for the government,” he said.

The Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited has prepared the detailed estimates for the renovation works.

Major improvements at Munnar include refurbishing the existing building and guardroom, complete electrification, and the installation of new signage. In Devikulam, plans include constructing a new building, installing underground water storage, creating public toilets, and conducting electrical repairs.
