In a bid to improve management and address the growing influx of visitors, the Uttarakhand government has introduced a new regulation requiring tourists to register on a dedicated portal during their stay in Mussoorie. This move aims to streamline visitor data collection, assist in crowd control, and ensure sustainable tourism practices in the popular hill station.

Tourists visiting Mussoorie are now required to register their details on a portal developed by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department at the time of check-in, an official announced on Thursday.

District Tourism Officer Brijendra Pandey explained that the new regulation came into effect on Wednesday. Hotels, guesthouses, homestays, and other accommodation providers must register themselves on the portal and record guest details upon check-in.

Pandey stated that this measure aims to address overcrowding and better regulate traffic in the popular hill station. The introduction of the rule was prompted by the near doubling of tourist arrivals between 2022 and 2024, he noted.

“This initiative will enable us to gather real-time data on tourist footfall in the town,” Pandey added.

Hoteliers and similar accommodation providers have been urged to comply with the new regulations. Previously, in May, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) instructed the state government to implement tourist registration and to submit data regularly.
