Due to the heavy downpours in Mumbai, the city remains under stress and slowed down. Multiple carriers are urging travellers to allow extra time before heading to the airport. Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air issued travel advisories on Tuesday, warning of delays and traffic problems due to waterlogging on several routes.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued a red alert for Mumbai, with extremely heavy rainfall forecast in some areas. With the city drenched, airlines say operations are taking a hit.

IndiGo took to the platform X to post an advisory that stated, " With Mumbai drenched in heavy showers, several routes to the airport are witnessing waterlogging and sluggish traffic. This has, in turn, led to operational challenges, with delays in both departures and arrivals and we truly regret the inconvenience this may cause."

The advisory further read, "Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and working diligently to keep operations steady. Your safety, comfort, and peace of mind remain our priority, and we deeply value your patience and understanding.

Air India also issued a statement on X, stating, "Mumbai is experiencing persistent rain, which may affect flight schedules. Check your flight status here (website link) before you head out, and allow a little extra time for travel."

SpiceJet issued a similar message. The airline said that due to bad weather in Mumbai (BOM), all departures and arrivals, as well as connected flights, could be affected. “Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,” the advisory read.

Akasa Air noted that disruption isn’t confined to Mumbai. The airline said that heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Goa, Pune and Guwahati is expected to cause road congestion. The message advised travellers to leave early. "To ensure a seamless travel experience, we request you to plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight," the travel update by the airlines read.

With delays likely, airlines are emphasising that travellers should track updates online and allow extra travel time to avoid last-minute stress.
