Pachmarhi, a prominent hill station situated within the Satpura ranges of Madhya Pradesh, is undergoing significant infrastructural upgrades aimed at boosting tourism and sustainability. The initiatives, amounting to over Rs 33.88 crore, are part of the central government’s “Virasat Se Vikas” (Heritage to Development) programme, led locally by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav.

Speaking at the event, Yadav commented, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh is consistently advancing towards transforming its legacy into a developmental force. Pachmarhi, known not only for its unmatched natural beauty but also for its deep historical significance, is being developed into one of the most popular tourist destinations by removing infrastructural barriers and creating global-standard facilities.”

Adding to the vision, Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture, and Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, remarked, “Pachmarhi has always been a top choice for travellers. With consistent upgradation of amenities, we are committed to making every visitor’s experience comfortable, memorable, and meaningful.”

Key developments include new potable water systems, scenic pathways, beautification projects, and sanitation facilities operated by local Self-Help Groups. Notably, a new water pipeline at Dhoopgarh, the highest peak in Madhya Pradesh, now supplies clean drinking water to visitors. Improved facilities at sites such as Jatashankar and Pandav Caves include ‘Pink Toilets’ designed for women.

Further enhancements involve a new four km pathway in Jaystambh, a redesigned main entrance costing Rs 35 lakh, and upgrades at the Satpura Retreat, including a new restaurant and swimming pool. Efforts are also underway to reduce plastic waste, with a Rs 34 lakh automated water plant providing reusable glass bottles and a dedicated polythene-free zone.

Meanwhile, comprehensive development worth Rs 1.98 crore is underway at Handi Khoh, including temporary sheds, safety railings, an amphitheatre, parking, accessible ramps, and approach paths to bolster visitor comfort and inclusivity. Basic amenities at key eco-tourism sites within the Satpura Tiger Reserve, such as Bee Fall, Mahadev, Chauragarh, Duchess Fall, Ramya Kund, Reechgarh, Foot Hill, and Shailanjali, are being developed at a cost of Rs 2.13 crore.

To promote wildlife tourism, Chief Minister Yadav launched 11 new safari vehicles designed for forest safaris within Satpura National Park. These developments aim to position Pachmarhi as a notable destination for eco-friendly travel and community-inclusive tourism in Madhya Pradesh.
