Authorities Strengthen Arrangements For Growing Magh Mela Crowd
Large numbers of devotees are arriving at the Magh Mela Kshetra in Prayagraj to take a sacred dip at the Sangam on Mauni Amavasya, as part of the ongoing Magh Mela, which started on January 3, 2026, and will continue until February 15, 2026.
Mauni Amavasya falls in the Hindu month of Magha and is an auspicious day when devotees gather at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers. On this day, bathing, offering arghya to the Sun, and performing charitable acts are believed to bring peace to ancestors’ souls and help devotees overcome life’s obstacles.
In addition to religious observances, the Mela features cultural programmes, spiritual discourses and wellness activities for the attendees.
To manage the heavy footfall, local authorities put in place extensive arrangements across the Sangam area. These included additional bathing ghats, changing rooms for pilgrims and public address systems to guide crowds, along with strengthened security using AI‑enabled surveillance cameras and drones to monitor movement and ensure safety, officials said.
The Prayagraj District Magistrate added that the Magh Mela is proceeding in an organised manner, and security officials are deployed across all sectors to ensure safety in the area.
